Local area man remembers he has a blog he is supposed to be posting on.

Since October, area man Darren Ottley, has thought there was something like spreading his wisdom to the masses he was supposed to be doing. Unfortunately he couldn’t remember the medium he was supposed to be expressing himself in. After 2 months of yelling through a megaphone from the bell tower at a local strip mall it dawned on him that he had a blog and it would be easier to express himself there and would also be less likely to be harassed by the police everyday.

So I am back and as you can tell I don’t really have a lot to say tonight. I have been thinking a lot about New Years Resolutions lately and maybe I will share some once I have them all figured out. (Yes not climbing bell towers every time a thought enters my head is going to make the list) Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. Like “Hey Darren ya know how you always chew food with your mouth open??? Well that is irritating so maybe try to work on that.”

It has been a very crazy and fast year for me. My family and I have been very fortunate this year despite the economy and all the other nonsense going on in the world. Maybe I will do a recap of the year as well.
Now that I have you all hooked … hanging on my every word I think I am going to turn in. I need to get some sleep… after all it is New Years Eve tomorrow.
Cheers!

Local Area man confined to walking slow and complaining a lot.

I am pretty sure I am way to old and out of shape to be playing basketball. I played last night and my goodness i AM PAYING THE PRICE TODAY. i can barely walk, my back is jacked up and i am so tired i could sleep the entire day away tomorrow. It sure was fun though playing ball like the olden days with all my homies there. Thanks for coming out.

Local tired area man took and ambien and went to sleep at the crack of 10. Good night.

Where have I been?

Well let me tell you. Lately I have been working on a few freelance projects and once you are done with work and then come home and do more work… well you get sick oh looking at computers. So this one is going to be short. It is my favorite time of the year… the 100 degree weather is gone… it is nice and cool, the leaves are changing and Halloween is coming with Christmas right around the corner. I went to a ski movie 2 weeks ago and am going to another one on Friday… I can’t wait to hit the slopes. Things are going well around here and i will update you more on that some other time.

Quick top 5 that i was talking about earlier

Best concerts…

1. Morrissey’s last concert. It was one for the “Real” fans and i loved it

2. Suprise entry here – Scissor Sisters at club Suede. Became on of my favorite bands of all time after that night.

3.Squeeze at the Palladium (R.I.P.)  Great show, Great friends, fun club… prefect timing. (I would imaging the planets were aligned that night too)

4. Underworld at the Palladium – man they had some great shows there… played the entire underneath the radar and threw in some Fruer songs on top oh it. Top Notch.

5. KISS – This was just fun. I was on the 17th row and my eyebrows jsut about got singed off from the 100 foot flames. Hell Yeah! |..|

A quick top 5

Here you go… MY TOP 5 U2 SONGS AT THIS EXACT MOMENT.
1. A Sort of Homecoming (the live version on wide awake in America)
2. I Will Follow
3. Love is Blindness
4. Running to Stand Still
5. Bad (The best 8 minutes in radio… also the live version from wide awake)
There are the ones that when they come on I find myself playing over and over and over. Sometimes You Can’t Make it on Your Own just barely missed the cut off and that is because it is on their latest album and the rest of these I have been listening to 15-20 years. But U2 is still making great music and deserve to be the biggest band in the world.

Where did he run off to now?

So a quick update on what has been going on in my world. (I am really tired so this is going to be quick)
We went on a vacation with Troy (my brother-in-law) and Jen (his girlfriend and my co-worker) to Newport Beach where she is from. We stayed with her parents who are some of the nicest people you could meet. It was a nice break from work. We didn’t really have anything planned while we were there which was nice. We went to the beach and did a lot of shopping. Avery was on my shoulders a lot during the trip and i think she really enjoyed being 7’2″ or so.

I think Avery believes she can fly

This weekend my dad and Sherie came into town. It has been a long time since we have seen them since they live in Florida. It was a great time to reconnect with them. They are doing really well down there. Sherie is still teaching and hoping this will be her last year. Dad is doing sales for a company that sales golf carts. They live in a large community where everyone drives golf carts like most places use their cars. It sounds like a perfect place for me since driving golf carts is the only aspect of golf I can do well. We are going to try to get down and see them within the next year… fingers crossed.
While they were here we went to see Grandma and Grandpa Ottley’s old home. Anyone who has known me over the years has probably been there at one time or another. They sold it several years ago to move to somewhere that didn’t require as much upkeep (it is a big and beautiful home up Millcreek canyon) The people who bought it are currently renovating it and it is amazing how much work has been done to it. Although the whole house is now covered in marble and elegant wood work I think it has kind of lost some of the charm that made it Grandma and Grandpa’s house. It was strange being there thinking of all the memories I had there growing up and what a totally different feeling the place has now. Well we still have the memories.
This weekend we also did a ton of work on our house. I really need a 3-day weekend to recover from this last 3-day weekend.
We are taking off a couple of days in 2 weeks to go down to Las Vegas and visit my friend Jeff and his family and meet up with Emily and Dale. (My sister and her husband) We are looking forward to another relaxing break for a few days.
My work has been crazy for a while now… actually since I started there, but we released out financial web portal www.finicity.com finally. We have been short handed in the marketing department but it is great to have it finally released and up and running. Check it out and I would love any feed back on the look, functionality or features. Join the community and have a look around.
OK I am going to sleep now. Take care.

Some of my work

Well it has been a while. My buddy Jeff and I were talking about photos and he suggested i put some up … so here are some of my favorites for one reason or another.
I really enjoy shooting interesting portraits and various sports. This is a picture of my friend Bree. It was shot at the Cathedral of the Madeline. I think the halo makes the pic.
This was an image for a design class. We had to do a newspaper add for a costume comapany and I wanted to do a charcoal drawing of Frankenstein.
This was a calendar I did in school. The assignment was a travel calendar and i figured if i went to new york I would really want to see some of the famous playground basketball courts.

Skiing is my favorite thing to do. I would ski everyday if i could. I blew the hell out of my knee, broke a wrist and broke my elbow and i still can’t get enough. I love shooting ski competitions.

This is a pic of my friend Ray Ray. I had to do a night scene and i love how this turned out. I added the hue in Photoshop.
So to finish it off here is a self portrait. I took it about a hundred years ago. (I am wearing sunglasses 🙂 )

10 or 11 things you may not know

So my wife put a list together of a bunch of things that you may not know about her. I decided to do something simpler.Anyway there will be more coming.
1. I HATE having stickers on me. The “hello my name is…” stickers that you get at the work summer party are unacceptable… I am forced to just walk around and outgoing and introduce myself. Anything sticky in general i dont care for.
2. I have a scar on my head from when I fell through some bleachers when i was 2 years old. I am very thankful i have kept all my awesome hair because I really would go insane explaining to every fool standing behind me in line at the grocery store. Luckily it is usually only girls cutting my hair that ask about it.
3. I, unlike my wife, hate public speaking. I have slightly improvved over the years but I still hate every minute of it.
4. This next one is top secert so keep it on the downlow… Although I wasn’t actually the only white member of Kool and the Gang, I may have let it slip out from time to time. Don’t tell Tina about this because i think it might have been some of the stories from our 87′ world tour that I may or may not been on really made her fall for me. (man those were some good times)
5. I hate country music…. I mean honestly… it’s awful… you know it and i know it. How ever there are 2 exceptions… Johnny Cash and the song ‘Devil Went Down to Georgia’… because they rule!
6. I was born in Newport Beach California. I think had i lived there I would have been an avid surfer. Instead I am an avid skier.
7. I am a bit more of a geek that may come across…. yes the star wars stuff is a pretty good give away but my love for animal planet, discovery channel and the history channel is a dead give away.
8. I have been very fortunate to have remained friends and in contact with most of my closest friends from my childhood.
9. I love Mexican food…. I could eat it three meals a day and be happy as a clam. Let’s here it for smothered burritos!
10. Although i have been in college for close to a hundred years, i only have a bachelors degree. Many bad decisions were made along the way but i finally finished. I couldn’t have done it without Tina. I am thinking about going back for a masters in a year or 2 once i get the desire back.
11. I am horrible at golf. It wasn’t a big deal at first but now i am playing enough that i feel i should be showing some improvement. (stupid game)

I haven’t forgotten about you… I am just a bit lazy

So it has been a while since i posted. So tonight is movie night with my girls. ( except Avery is currently taking a nap) It has been a crazy week at work and we are just going to take it easy tonight. Madison is going to be in town until Sunday and I am soooo excited to have her here. We have some fun plans for the weekend and I will post them later.

Well the Transformers are calling so it is time to wrap this up.

Since it is my password I think I will go ahead and choose it.

We have all done it. Signed up for some website or something of the sorts. During the process you get to the part where they say ‘enter you password’ so what do you do…. you enter your password. For this example i will use the password ‘hello kitty” so i enter hello Kkitty and guess what??? No go. Your password must contain a number. To which i say no i dont because as you can clearly see there is no number in hello kitty which is my password which i might reinstate is what YOU ASKED FOR! So ya know i really want to get the awesome Star Wars action figure (It is a speederbike with with the Imperial driver… you know you want it too so here we go hell0 kitty -smooth opreator – change the o to a zero. Time to move on. wait MY password is not actually my password still because it needs a capital letter too. (Hell Fire as he shakes his head) Fine i will play your stupid little game you lame website. I will be victorious. ( i open up itunes and start playing Eye of the Tiger… nothing is stopping me now. ) So fine you want a capital you got it… I don’t care any more heLlo kitty and guess what i am in.
Now my question is why do you ask me for my password if you aren’t going to let me enter my password. If you want my password then take it … if you want me to insert a bunch of random crap that I will never remember then ask enter some random crap (hopefully you will remember it or never need it again) me personally i will go through my email and try to track it down. I have a a few passwords and then a bunch of variations that i never remember until i get locked out of the site.
Its my password and they should take it. If someone is stupid enough to use their wifes name Mitzie, or their cats name Mitzie (what a coincidence) or qwerty or 55555 any of these the person deserves to have their identity stolen. Make a good password and sites take the password.

Thanks and have a good night.

🙂
